PHOTO FABULOUS OR PHOTO FRUMPY?

With the Oscars 2015 going down last Monday, fashion saw the creme de la creme sparkling on the Red Carpet. Instead of commenting on the glitz and the gowns, the SuperStyle team choose to look at the Oscar stars’ body language and photo positioning.

Good, bad or ugly – what does their pose say about them?

FRUMPY:

The Who: America Ferrera
The Look: The Double Handed Clutch Clasp
The Good: Keeps both hands occupied
The Bad: Exposing the full back of the hands shows them off at their widest. Overall this posture looks a little closed.

The Result: 5/10

America-Ferrera

FRUMPY:

The Who: Lorelei Linklater
The Look: The Power Arm
The Good: Asymmetrical pose keeps the camera lens interested
The Bad: To pull this off, the rest of the body pose has to match the drama of that arm. Sorry Lorelei, your wonderwoman still needs work

The Result: 4/10

Lorelei-Linklater

FRUMPY:

The Who: Marion Cotillard
The Look: Back Showcase
The Good: Reminiscent of early 1940’s sophistication
The Bad: Hunchback of Hollywood? Plus keeping one arm away from the body would have shown more waist definition

The Result: 6/10

Marion-Cotillard

FABULOUS:

The Who: Jamie Chung
The Look: The Mini Waist
The Good: Keeps both hands occupied and gives an even tinier waist & svelte figure
The Bad: Both elbows out? Can look a little too funky chicken.
Point elbows back to dilute the chicken stock

The Result: 8/10

Jamie-Chung

FABULOUS:

The Who: Neil Patrick Harris
The Look: Checking your Cuffllink
The Good: Keeps both hands busy whilst looking George Cloony suave
The Bad: Could edge on pretension, so not an easy tightrope to walk

The Result: 8/10

Neil-Patrick-Harris

FABULOUS:

The Who: Rosamunde Pike
The Look: The Power Arm
The Good: We love how Rosamunde has got the elegant power pose down to a tee. And even the relaxed arm actively away from the body to highlight her gorgeous waist
The Bad: Nope, we’ve got nothing on her!

The Result: 10/10

Rosamund-Pike
FABULOUS:

The Who: Laura Dern
The Look: The Single Handed Clutch
The Good: Gives asymmetry which the camera loves whilst keeping one arm happily occupied. Active arms keep Margot’s waistline looking hot
The Bad: Margot, you nailed it

The Result: 10/10

Laura-Dern

FABULOUS:

The Who: Sienna Miller
The Look: The China Doll
The Good: Leaning the neck forward and pointing the chin slightly down gives definition to the jawline whilst highlighting the swan like neck
The Bad: We’re stumped!

The Result: 10/10

Sienna-Miller
